Furniture Assembly in Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem is a city that moves a lot of furniture. Students and staff come and go with the semesters at Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State, Salem College and the UNC School of the Arts, residents and nurses rotate through Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and Novant Health Forsyth, and new houses keep filling in around Clemmons, Lewisville and Kernersville. Add in the High Point furniture market just down the road and the giant online catalog everyone shops from, and there's a steady flow of boxes showing up on porches with fifty pieces, a bag of cam locks and instructions that are mostly arrows. Most of it gets built on a living room floor at eleven at night, which is how drawers end up crooked and bookcases end up wobbling.

We take the boxes off your hands. We unpack and inventory the parts first so missing pieces are caught before the job is half done, then build each item square and tight, set drawers and doors so they run smoothly, and level everything on your floor, which in an older house is rarely flat. Tall dressers, bookcases and wardrobes get anchored to the wall with the right hardware for drywall, plaster or brick. Heavy items like adjustable beds, gym equipment and big sectional frames go where you want them, carried up the stairs without scraping trim. When we're finished, the cardboard is broken down and stacked for recycling, the packing foam is bagged, and the room is ready to use.

What this covers

  • Beds, bunk beds, lofts and adjustable bases
  • Dressers, chests, nightstands and wardrobes
  • Desks, office chairs and filing cabinets
  • Cribs, changing tables and nursery furniture
  • Bookcases and media consoles anchored to the wall
  • Outdoor dining sets, swings and storage boxes
  • Home gym equipment and exercise benches
  • Cardboard breakdown and packaging cleanup
A note from around here: We build a lot of beds and desks for students and medical staff renting near Wake Forest, Ardmore and the hospital campuses, and full rooms of furniture for families settling into new homes in Clemmons, Lewisville and the subdivisions off NC 66 in Kernersville.

How a furniture assembly visit usually goes

Unbox and Check

We unpack every box, lay out and count the hardware and panels, and look for shipping damage before building so any problem is caught early.

Build Square

Each piece is assembled in order, glued where the maker calls for it, squared and tightened, with drawers and doors adjusted to run and close smoothly.

Place and Secure

Furniture is moved into position, leveled on your floor, and tall pieces are anchored to the wall into studs or with hardware suited to plaster or brick.

Clean Up

We break down cardboard, bag packaging and leftover foam, wipe down the finished pieces, and leave spare hardware labeled in case you need it later.

Move-in season has a rhythm here. Late July and August bring college students and their parents to the apartments and rental houses around Wake Forest, along Polo Road and through Ardmore near the medical center, and every one of them seems to have a bed frame, a desk and a bookcase in boxes. June and July are big for families buying in Clemmons, Lewisville and Kernersville, where we may build a whole house worth of bedroom sets and patio furniture over a day. Older homes in the West End and Buena Vista come with their own puzzles, like narrow stair turns and low ceilings on upper floors that limit how tall a wardrobe can stand once built. We measure doorways and stairways before we commit to building upstairs.

What shapes the price in Winston-Salem

Assembly cost comes down to the number of pieces and how complicated they are. A nightstand or simple bookcase takes a fraction of the time of a wardrobe with sliding doors, a loft bed or a large L-shaped desk with a hutch. Items with many drawers, glass panels, or gas-lift mechanisms add time, as do heavy pieces that need two people and a careful trip up narrow stairs. Wall anchoring into plaster or brick takes longer than into drywall. Building a whole room or several rooms in one visit is much more efficient than scheduling each item on its own.

Neighbors often ask

Do you assemble furniture from any store?

Yes. We build flat-pack and ready-to-assemble pieces from the big online retailers and warehouse stores as well as heavier boxed furniture from local and regional furniture stores. If a piece arrives damaged or with missing parts, we'll help you identify exactly what to order, and finish the rest of the build so you aren't stuck waiting on everything.

Will you anchor tall furniture to the wall?

Always, if it's a dresser, bookcase, wardrobe or anything else that can tip. Tip-overs are a real danger for small children. We fasten the anti-tip strap or bracket into a stud wherever possible, and use the right anchors for plaster or masonry in older houses where studs are harder to reach. If you'd rather skip it, we'll explain the risk, but we strongly recommend it.

Can you put together a crib or nursery set before the baby arrives?

Yes, and it's one of the more satisfying jobs we do. We build cribs exactly to the maker's instructions, check every bolt and slat, set the mattress height correctly, and anchor the dresser and changing table to the wall. If you're getting the nursery ready months ahead, we can also hang shelves and curtains and mount a monitor bracket in the same visit.

Can you take apart furniture for a move and rebuild it at the new place?

Yes. We disassemble beds, desks and other pieces carefully, bag and label the hardware for each item, and reassemble at your new home, whether that's across town or out in Kernersville. Flat-pack furniture doesn't always survive repeated moves, so we'll point out any panel or cam joint that's getting weak and reinforce it where we can.

Do you assemble outdoor furniture and play equipment?

We assemble patio dining sets, porch swings, gliders, deck boxes and smaller outdoor storage units. Large wooden swing sets and playhouses are bigger builds; we're glad to look at the kit and give you a straight answer on time. Outdoor pieces get placed on level ground or pavers, since Piedmont clay settles unevenly after heavy rain.
